
After reading Chapter 5 of the Connected Educator, I can truly say that I gained more of a prospective on using helpful tools. It goes without saying that the author goes into great detail and presents many interesting and informative points on using different tools in order to assist in learning different things. For instance, the authors go on to discuss the interesting idea of social bookmarks and talk about the many benefits that it presents. In essence, social bookmarking is basically a centralized online service that allows different users to add, annotate, edit, and share bookmarks of web documents.
In my personal experience, being a finance major, I am always looking for more information about important topics I may be learning about in class. In the finance field, different articles and information is being posted on the internet every minute of every day. Social bookmarking is something that can help me immensely because it would help me grasp a better understanding of what is currently going on in the finance world.

As this very informative chapter went on and discussed the benefits of different tools, a part that stuck out to me was when the authors discussed the benefits of different people connecting and collaborating together in order to gain as much information as possible. I believe that this is unquestionably very important regardless of the field you are in. In my personal case, connecting and collaborating is essential in order to be successful. There are so many tools that are available to everyone that can assist in doing this. For example, blogs allow for people to easily connect and collaborate. In my case, a blog that helps me do this is "Money Under 30". This is a finance blog that gives financial tips and different ideas that help with a wide array of topics.
It goes without saying that this chapter does a great job of discussing the many tools out there that our available to everyone. These tools make it easy for us to connect with different people and get a better understanding of whatever field we are in. Connecting and gaining more knowledge is always incredibly important regardless of the field that we are in.

Just as you mentioned, using these tools will be beneficial to anyone in any field or industry. As a Hospitality major, I follow a blog called "Hospitality Net". In this blog it mentions everything from job postings to articles about traveling to Bora Bora. I like that you mentioned a blog in your post. Blogs are great tools to use for people who want to connect with others with the same interests, and collaborate on certain topics.
Hi Peter! I agree that the authors really opened my mind about utilizing tools to assist with learning so many different things. I understand as a finance major this is helpful to you to continue learning. I'm a health science major and always eager to learn new things in my field about assisting patients. Since we are always learning and researching, these tools are definitely a huge help to enable us to do so. I also agree that blogs are an awesome way to collaborate with others while learning new information.

I also like how you included a website that was not mentioned in the chapter. As a business major myself I have never heard of the website before and I am curious to see what it is all about. My question to you is how do you plan on keeping a good reputation within your field of work?

ReplyDeleteVery insightful, Peter! I also found it very interesting to be learning about digital bookmarking tools. Similarly, I thought it was be great that students and professional can utilized such applications and tools to stay organize and learn about relevant topics. I like how you pulled extensively from your personal experience in discussing the broad categories rather than a verbatim recap of the chapter. Do you think digital bookmarking tools will be more mainstream in the future?

ReplyDeleteGreat job summarizing the chapter and I can also say I have been very enlightened about several different tools from this chapter. As I go further into my studies as a health science major, I also found social bookmarking to be a helpful tool in my future and applicable to my career. Blogs created by those in our desire profession are also going to be helpful whether the creator is experienced or inexperienced. It is a place where professional leaners and connect and relate.
